NOLABA News – Study shows NOLA added 5,000+ jobs in one year

WGNO

The New Orleans Business Alliance says Orleans Parish added 5,139 new jobs between the second quarters of 2014 and 2015.The group based the announcement on statistics released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

Many of the jobs came in the information technologies sector which includes software and mobile app development, as well as website design and development.

Telecommunications and film and video production jobs also contributed to the growth.

Statewide, the LWC also says construction employment hit a 25 year high with more than 146,000 people working construction jobs in the state in November of this year.

On the down side, slumping oil prices caused significant job cuts in the petroleum industry in Louisiana.  According to a LWC report, the sector lost more than 10,000 jobs in 2015, a drop of nearly 20%.
